FAQ: How to know if my site is pointing to VTEX?

A recurring question among our customers that can have a major impact on sales, this topic aims to provide a simple way to check whether your domain is correctly pointing to VTEX.

It’s worth noting that DNS pointing and redirect settings must be configured directly with your hosting provider, which is why it’s not possible to view this information directly in our platform’s admin panel.

However, you can use a free external tool, such as DigWebInterface, to check your domain’s DNS records:

Note: this is not a VTEX platform tool — it’s simply a free tool that can be used to check domain pointing.

                    https://www.digwebinterface.com/

Just enter your domain in the top-left box, click “Fix” to adjust the entered address to the platform’s standard format (since DigWeb doesn’t accept “https://”, but it can correct this automatically), and then click “Dig”:

The first line of the results shows the pointing configured for the domain. If the first line shows CNAME and the address on the right is exactly in the format shown below, your domain is correctly pointing to VTEX:

                         {{domain}}.cdn.vtex.com

Below is an example of a real website correctly pointed to VTEX:

In our documentation you’ll find a few other format examples depending on your domain and subdomain setup:

Store address: www.site.com.br
  - Entry (subdomain): www
  - Type: CNAME
  - Destination: www.site.com.br.cdn.vtex.com
Store address: store.mycompany.com
  - Entry (subdomain): store
  - Type: CNAME
  - Destination: store.mycompany.com.cdn.vtex.com

Important notes:

1. If any of your domains is pointing to IP 52.8.174.221, a redirect was likely set up using the Redirect tool as described in the documentation (which, despite being mentioned in our documentation, is not a VTEX service): Redirecting other addresses | VTEX Help Center

2. If your store uses a Reverse Proxy service, it won’t be possible to check your DNS pointing using the steps described in this topic.

If you have any further questions on the subject, feel free to ask here or open a new topic referencing this one! :hugs:
